Behind The Lens

Amber Renea Dalholt

I moved from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 2013 with my husband, David. After growing up with endless sun and heat, experiencing four distinct seasons — with just the right amount of snow — still feels magical. We recently traded city life for a little more space and now call Yadkinville home, but Winston will always have our heart. This corner of North Carolina is home for good.

In a family fluent in sarcasm, I somehow became the resident weirdo with corny humor and an unhealthy love of puns. You’ll rarely find me without a cup of coffee in hand as I juggle two bright, high-energy kids and our ever-growing animal kingdom: Red Dog; Brady, the GOAT golden retriever (yes, named after that Tom); Bucky, our delightfully plump rodent-slaying cat; Petey, now a very grown-up tuxedo cat; Rocky and Willow, our cockatiels with big personalities; and Lilo, the lizard who somehow rounds out the chaos perfectly.

Prosecco, cookies and milk, or a bowl of ice cream are my post-long-day indulgences. I can binge-watch Gilmore Girls or Smallville while editing photos for hours — during busy season I can power through 6–8 seasons without blinking.

David and I own a few local businesses — Sunnyside Millwork, Lynnwood Builders, and Easy Tiger Beer Garden. We’ve been immersed in the small-business world for over a decade and wouldn’t trade it for anything. Some of our favorite spots include Salem Lake, Pilot Mountain, Mission Pizza, Sayso Coffee, and of course, Easy Tiger.

We love meeting fellow business owners and new friends, so if you see us out and about — come say hello.
